Spend some time outdoors as the weather warms exploring the Gateway to the West

St. Louis, the second-largest city in Missouri, is located on Missouri’s east side along the Illinois border. Originally settled in 1764, the U.S. acquired St. Louis in 1804 as part of the Louisiana Purchase. In the early years of the 20th Century, St. Louis was a bustling city, the fourth largest in the United States. Today, St. Louis, also referred to as the Gateway to the West, is the 20th largest metropolitan area in the United States, has four major sports teams, three universities and six Fortune 500 Companies that call it home.

The city proper is a wonderful place to explore for a day, a weekend or even longer. With lots of beautiful outdoor spaces to take in as well as historical sites to examine, the city offers a wide range of activities for travelers of all types. From museums to gardens and everything in between, St. Louis is a city worth checking out, as much for its historical significance to the United States as well as its beautiful midwest scenery. If your spring travels take you to the Show Me State, you’ll want to check out these beautiful outdoor spaces in St. Louis.

  • Citygarden St. Louis- This contemporary garden brings a touch of art and nature to an otherwise urban locale. The Citygarden is always free and features a spray plaza, cafe, art sculptures, reflecting pools and more. It’s a peaceful place to sit and relax as well as a spot to let the kids run and play.
  • Forest Park- Considered one of the best urban parks in the United States, Forest Park is a sprawling park with loads of fun in store for visitors of all ages. Check out the fish hatchery or the World’s Fair grounds, wander along the winding pathways, check out the golf course and tennis courts and so much more.

Don’t forget your camera- the pictures you snap here will be ones that will always remind you of your time in St. Louis.
  • Chain of Rocks Bridge- Traverse a stretch of the old Highway 66 across the Mighty Mississippi.
