Family-friendly fun awaits in the St. Louis suburbs

A scenic spot just west of St. Louis, Creve Coeur, Missouri, is a thriving community with tons of fun to offer visitors. French for broken heart, Creve Coeur, population around 20,000, is home to the headquarters for Drury Inn and the birthplace of actor John Hamm. The area is known for its beautiful lake, plentiful outdoor activities and close proximity to the city of St. Louis, meaning fun both indoors and outdoors is never far away.

The St. Louis area at large is a great area to explore. Known as the Gateway to the West, St. Louis is an exciting metropolitan area filled with museums, outdoor recreation and all kinds of unique Midwestern spots. When adventure is calling, Creve Coeur and the greater St. Louis area of Missouri is ready to answer.

Six fun ways to enjoy Creve Coeur and St. Louis, 2025

  • Embark on a treetop adventure with Go Ape! This adventure zip line experience is perfect for anyone who is fearless and lives for heart-pounding activities. Guests will complete ropes courses set high in the trees and then zip line to the ground. Thrilling and exciting- and maybe a little intimidating, especially for those who don’t like heights!
  • Explore Creve Coeur Lake by water. Like to paddleboard? Or canoe? Maybe kayaking is for you? Even if you’ve never tried any of these activities before, there’s no time like the present! Rent a vessel for the day and enjoy the calm waters and serene surroundings at Creve Coeur Lake.
  • Embrace learning while you play at the St. Louis Science Center. Brimming with exciting activities from flight simulators to a life science lab and everything in between, the St. Louis Science Center is fun and engaging for all ages. You’ll love exploring each of the different spaces throughout the building, each designed to inspire and intrigue.
  • Engage with the history and architecture of the area at the Tappmeyer Homestead. Built from 1880-1884, the Tappmeyer Homestead was once a working farm encompassing 33 acres and included livestock. Today, the house is decorated in period-appropriate furnishings and is a wonderful tribute to a bygone era.
  • Excite your inner child with a trip to the St. Louis Zoo. More than 12,000 animals call the St. Louis Zoo home, meaning you’ll have plenty of opportunities to get up close with a few of your favorites! While you’re there, be sure and enjoy the sea lion show, Conservation Carousel, Zooline Railroad and more. You’re never too old to enjoy the zoo.
  • Experience St. Louis on foot with an exciting walking tour. True crime buffs will love the Soulard True Crime Tour, where they can learn about the gruesome history of the area from expert guides. But if true crime isn’t for you, don’t worry! There are plenty of exciting tours to choose from where you can learn about St. Louis and what makes it such an exciting, diverse city in the heart of America.
